The student will learn the fundamentals of radar systems. This includes the relationships guiding the target range, velocity, angle, and reflection coefficients. The course emphasizes the target range, cross-range, and Doppler resolutions that can be achieved using the given radar signal structure, bandwidth, and antenna array configuration. Detection and false alarm probabilities are derived and used to define the required emitted power and maximum detectable target range. The course covers emerging topics in radar signal processing, including multiple-input multiple-output system platforms, sparse arrays, and the use of machine learning in direction finding, beamforming design, and target tracking. Applications cover the defense and civilian Sectors.
